A Buck Island Wedding with Lowcountry Style and NYC Energy | Hilton Head Wedding Photographer

Lane and Andrew’s wedding was the perfect mix of Lowcountry ease and New York City edge. Lane, born and raised in the Lowcountry, and Andrew, a true NYC guy, brought both worlds together in a way that felt elevated, personal, and genuinely fun. Their cultures didn’t just meet—they blended in the best possible way.

They chose Buck Island, a small private resort island just off Hilton Head, South Carolina, and felt an instant connection to it. For Lane especially, the location was deeply meaningful—she could literally see the island from her father’s home. Living in New York City now, the couple was excited to bring their people south and show off the coastal beauty of the Lowcountry, especially Andrew’s family, some of whom traveled all the way from Russia to be there.

A Private Island Wedding in the Lowcountry

Because Buck Island is only accessible by charter, the entire day felt wonderfully insulated. Guests arrived together on a ferry boat, instantly setting the tone that this wasn’t a typical wedding—it was an experience. The wedding party stayed on the island in a modern architectural mansion complete with a lookout tower, making the whole weekend feel intimate, intentional, and just a little surreal.

Luxury met warmth in all the right ways. Nothing felt overdone, but every detail mattered.

Thoughtful Details with Personality

The couple’s dog served as ring bearer (always a win), and Lane’s sister officiated the ceremony, which made everything feel even more personal. Oysters and lavender carried through the day as a subtle theme—Lane wore a lavender-embroidered veil and carried a dried lavender bouquet, while oyster place cards and an oyster and shrimp bar tied in the coastal setting perfectly.

The day wasn’t about perfection—it was about presence. Lane’s veil got caught on florals during the ceremony and fell off, earning a big laugh from everyone and instantly breaking any remaining nerves. Jewish traditions like stomping the glass were woven into the ceremony, grounding the celebration in meaning and heritage.

Golden Hour, Dancing, and a Legendary Afterparty

Golden hour hit right as toasts and dinner were underway, bathing the island in soft coastal light. Emerald Empire Band kept the energy high all night, and the reception included a full-on Jewish hora dance that brought everyone to the floor.

And then came the afterparty.

Once the reception wrapped, guests moved to the pool patio where a real NYC DJ—one of the couple’s close friends—took over. This is where things truly unraveled in the best way. My personal favorite moment? Lane and Andrew riding on friends’ shoulders while Lane poured Tito’s shots straight into guests’ mouths. Pure joy. Pure chaos. Completely unforgettable.

Documenting Lowcountry Weddings That Break the Mold

Lane and Andrew’s Buck Island wedding was the kind of day that proves luxury and fun are not mutually exclusive. It was intimate, meaningful, wildly joyful, and deeply rooted in who they are.

If you’re planning a destination or private island wedding in Hilton Head or the Lowcountry, this is exactly the kind of celebration I love documenting—where culture, connection, and personality lead the way.
