What couples should know before booking one of Savannah's newest luxury wedding venues

Savannah has no shortage of beautiful wedding venues.

Historic mansions.

Garden courtyards.

Grand ballrooms.

Centuries of architectural charm.

What makes Hotel Bardo stand out isn't that it's more luxurious than every other venue in the city.

It's that it offers a different vision of luxury.

Where many Savannah wedding venues lean heavily into history and nostalgia, Hotel Bardo feels fresh. Thoughtfully designed. A little unexpected.

The best way I can describe it is this:

Hotel Bardo feels like an oasis hidden in the middle of Savannah.

As a Savannah wedding photographer, it's one of the venues I'm most excited about right now because it manages to feel distinctly Savannah while simultaneously offering something completely different.

A note on the images in this post: The photographs featured throughout this article were captured while second shooting for photographer Meghan Melia and are shared with permission. I'm grateful for the opportunity to photograph at Hotel Bardo and experience the venue firsthand.

What Makes Hotel Bardo Feel Different?

Part of what makes Hotel Bardo interesting is that it isn't simply a new hotel.

The property has lived several lives.

Originally built in 1888 as a private residence, the striking terracotta and red-brick building later served as one of Savannah's premier funeral parlors before becoming The Mansion on Forsyth Park, a luxury hotel known for its Southern Gothic style.

In 2024, the property was transformed again.

Following an extensive renovation, Hotel Bardo emerged with an entirely new identity.

Rather than leaning into traditional Southern aesthetics, the redesign draws inspiration from Mediterranean travel, coastal Italian resorts, private clubs, and modern hospitality.

You can feel that shift immediately.

The result is a venue that feels distinctly Savannah while offering a fresh perspective on what a luxury wedding weekend can look like.

Bride and groom exchange vows before seated guests in a bright modern venue with exposed wood beams, ring chandeliers and greenery.

Three stemless glasses of yellow citrus cocktails with ice, lime wheels and bamboo straws on a round black serving tray.
Elegant ballroom wedding reception with a floral centerpiece of white blooms and palm leaves on a round table, set beneath chandeliers.
Crispy phyllo cups filled with diced fresh strawberries and chopped chives, served as elegant appetizers on a rustic wooden board.
Elegant banquet table with white linens, orange marigold and pink bloom centerpieces, candles and glassware beneath a crystal chandelier.

Trailing green vines with small orange flowers cascade down a white wood-paneled wall, adding a lush botanical accent to the room.

What Does a Hotel Bardo Wedding Feel Like?

Every venue has an atmosphere.

Some feel formal.

Some feel traditional.

Some feel designed around a single event.

Hotel Bardo feels designed around an entire experience.

The property encourages guests to linger.

To gather.

To spend time together.

The pool feels like Palm Springs somehow found its way to Savannah.

The courtyards feel tucked away from the city.

The interiors feel intentional without feeling precious.

It's one of the few wedding venues in Savannah that genuinely feels like a resort.

For destination weddings especially, that matters.

Because your wedding isn't just a ceremony and reception.

It's a weekend.

And Bardo understands that.

Joyful bridesmaids and groomsmen laugh and hug a bride holding a colorful bouquet inside a bright glass greenhouse wedding venue.

The Oasis Courtyard: One of Savannah's Best Cocktail Hour Spaces

If I had to choose one space that defines Hotel Bardo, it would probably be The Oasis.

The Kelly green pergola.

The backdrop of the historic red-brick architecture.

The energy.

It feels elegant without becoming formal.

Relaxed without becoming casual.

I've always thought this space works especially well for cocktail hour because guests naturally spread out, mingle, and settle into the evening.

It's one of those rare spaces that feels equally suited for a luxury wedding and a relaxed conversation with friends.

Hotel Bardo and Forsyth Park Are a Perfect Pairing

One of the venue's biggest advantages is its location.

Hotel Bardo sits directly across from Forsyth Park, making it an ideal home base for couples who want to incorporate one of Savannah's most iconic locations into their wedding day.

Whether you're planning portraits beneath the oaks, a ceremony at the fountain, or a tented celebration in the park itself, Bardo's proximity makes the logistics remarkably simple.

Few venues in Savannah are better positioned for couples who want the best of both worlds:

A luxury hotel experience and one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

The Pool Is Worth Talking About

Not because anyone is getting married in it.

Because destination weddings aren't just about the wedding day.

They're about everything surrounding it.

Welcome parties.

Brunches.

Time spent with friends.

Time spent with family.

The pool at Hotel Bardo feels like part of the experience rather than an afterthought.

If you're hosting guests for an entire weekend, it's easy to imagine everyone gathering here before or after the wedding festivities begin.

It's one of the spaces that makes Bardo feel less like a hotel and more like a retreat.

Who Is Hotel Bardo Right For?

One thing I find interesting about Hotel Bardo is that it appeals to two seemingly different groups of couples.

The first are creative professionals.

People who appreciate thoughtful interior design, architecture, and modern hospitality.

The second are couples who love traditional Southern weddings but want a fresher interpretation.

The pops of pink.

The Kelly green accents.

The elevated club atmosphere.

The location across from Forsyth Park.

Hotel Bardo manages to bridge those worlds surprisingly well.

Hotel Bardo vs. Perry Lane

Couples often ask me how Hotel Bardo compares to Perry Lane.

While both represent a fresh, modern take on Savannah luxury, they create very different experiences.

Perry Lane feels urban, social, and connected to the city.

Hotel Bardo feels more secluded.

More layered.

More resort-like.

Neither is better.

They're simply different expressions of modern Savannah hospitality.

Things Couples should consider

Hotel Bardo Is Luxury

And it's priced accordingly.

This sits firmly within Savannah's luxury wedding market.

The investment tends to show up in the guest experience.

The Venue Has Personality

One of the things I love about Bardo is that it doesn't feel generic.

The design choices are bold and intentional.

You're choosing a venue with a point of view.

For the right couple, that's a tremendous strength.

Multiple Spaces Require Thoughtful Planning

The flexibility is one of Bardo's greatest assets.

It also means couples should think carefully about how they want guests to move throughout the event.

Fortunately, the property offers plenty of opportunities to create a wedding that feels unique to you.
